Bio: Jennie Wright is a Cincinnati native who uses spoken word poetry as a tool to educate as well as entertain. Jennie is a former nationally ranked slam poet and served as the slam master of Cincinnati, leading her team to Poetry Slam International twice. She now serves as a booking agent and talent manager for like-minded artists, helping them spread their message through their arts. Her team is rounded out by Siri Imani Huey and Alexis Thompson, who are members of local group TRIIIBE.
Project: Sankofa will be an immersive cultural exchange and improvisational arts learning project that will create high-quality, thought-provoking art environments that celebrate watershed moments in African American arts movements. Sankofa invites the attendees to not only view, but also to become art as well. The installation will feature two specific environments: the 1920's Cotton Club-era, and 80's and 90's hip-hop culture ("the Breaks").
