Project Grantee Christa Hyson of Not Even Once hosts this community discussion at People's Liberty. Join Health Experts, First Responders, Community Activists and Public Health Professionals in discussing the current status of the heroin epidemic in Cincinnati.
Panel and community discussions will include; on-going prevention efforts, stories of recovery, notable and local people/organizations who are working towards a solution and what YOU can do as a citizen.
1. Every day, 78 people in the United States die from an opiate overdose - 29 of them from heroin, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s more than 10,500 deaths a year attributed to heroin and more than 28,000 deaths from opiate overdoses.
2. In Cincinnati & Hamilton County alone, there were 107 fatal overdoses and 1,569 non-fatal overdoses in 2016.
3. We have unfortunately exceeded 2016's numbers. There have been 119 fatal overdoses and 1,574 non-fatal overdoses as of August 20, 2017.
4. Recovery and positive movement is happening! We are here to uncover it!
