Sankofa Presents “The Breaks”
Globe Grantee Jennie Wright has transformed the Globefront into Experience Sankofa. After a month taking visitors back in time to the New York City’s 1920’s Harlem Renaissance, Sankofa is flipping the space and jumping decades to 1980’s during the dawn of Hip Hop.

Special Performances and Events:
March 2–Opening Night, 1–5pm
Celebrate doors reopening with a sampler of “The Breaks” and an opportunity to explore the elements of Hip Hop (Breakin', Emceeing, Tagging, and DJing).
March 7: Breakin’ Dance Party, 7–9pm
Join for a night of dance demonstrations and learn the moves with instructional teachers on-hand.
March 8: The Cypher, 7–10pm
Watch or participate as emcees go head to head in lyrical battle.
March 9:Ladies First! Night, 7–10pm
This night is all about the ladies. Join Sankofa as they celebrate and pay homage to the trailblazing ladies of Hip Hop.
March 14:Beat Battle, 7–9pm
Watch or participate as local producers unleash their beats.
March 15: Poetry Open Mic, 7–10pm
Step up to the mic or join in the audience as the city’s dopest poets share 1970-1990 Hip Hop inspired poems.
March 16: East Coast vs. West Coast, 7–10pm
The East Coast/West Coast feud was one the most important moments in the history of hip-hop. Essentially, a lyrical, and ultimately physical, battle arose. Enjoy the music and explore the roots of this infamous rivalry.
March 21: Sip n Paint, 7–10pm
Pay homage to the art of the time, sip and create a Basquiat inspired work. Wine, art supplies (canvas, paint, brush) and fun instructional lessons all included.
March 22: Old School Karaoke, 7–10pm
Come out for a night of old school Hip Hop Karaoke fun!
March 23: Closing House Party, 1–5pm
Help us close out Sankofa at this fun, free community day.

The Mobilization of Congo Square Pop-ups
2019 Project Grant recipient Napoleon Maddox is bringing his free jazz concert series, Mobilization of Congo Square, all over the city throughout March. His performances introduce jazz to an underexposed audience and champion freedom of expression and possibility. Here’s where you can catch his improvised concerts this month:
March 2: 1pm at Everybody’s Flea Market; 4pm at Grace Episcopal
March 9: Congo Square Launch Symposium, 4pm at People’s Liberty
March 15: 5pm at Price Hill Library in the Price Hill Recreation Center; 7pm at MYCincinnati
March 16: 4pm at Sweet Sister Splash; 5:45pm at Grace Episcopal
