It’s not just black and white. The Play Library is covered in hand-painted black and white scenery that puts guests in a life-sized, cardboard playhouse. The Play Library is more than just checking out games and toys; it is an immersive gallery experience for people of all ages.
There’s a talking frog. The great people from Losant are making fun, interactive elements for the space. The frog talks, the fish gurgle, the gears turn and the chairs might make you jump.
It’s one of a kind. There are other models of toy-loan libraries around the world that lend toys to young children, but the Play Library is different: while there are plenty of toys and games to check out, there will be activities and events scheduled on a regular basis. Stay tuned.
Julia Fischer is basically Tom Hanks in “BIG.” The designer and Chief Librarian for the Play Library is Julia Fischer, a former toy designer who’s spent time in both New York City and LA. She can unicycle. Learn more about Julia on the Play Library Website.
3-D draw your socks off. The Play Library is host to cutting edge items, like the 3Doodler pen that lets you make miniature models.
In lieu of colorful landfill. The Play Library is one solution for a very real problem. Many mass-manufactured toys break before they’re fully enjoyed. Many well-produced toys are very expensive. The Play Library gives great toys new lives and helps extend the lives of older ones. Win.
It’s basically free. When you sign up for a membership, you get unlimited access to exclusive in-house games and toys. For membership increments starting at $20, you can take home any of the items on the shelves and get into all the scheduled events.
You can get in behind the scenes. Fulfill your lifelong dream of being a librarian by signing up to volunteer during Play Library open hours. It’s a great chance to interact with the neighborhood, and volunteers get free memberships. The more you help out, the more perks you earn.
You can bring your stuff. If you have games and toys and fun things to share, bring them to the Play Library! Donations will be accepted throughout the summer. Come by for details.
You can have a balloon jetpack. Come to Globe in The Dark, the kickoff party for The Play Library on June 24. There will be food, custom balloon designs, fun animations, and an appearance from a live R2D2.
