The PL team is on a mission to provide opportunities for our growing group of grantees through an experience we like to call: Lunch & Learn. This platform is aimed to be a gathering for our grantees to build relationships with one another, as well as learn about various topics ranging from finance to design. Our inaugural Lunch & Learn covered the topic of taxes especially in regards to the tax obligations upon receiving one of our grants.
We would like to extend a thank you to our two speakers: Max Sullivan and Caroline Creaghead. Max works with Clark Schaefer Hackett, a organization that helps with not for profit tax issues; and Caroline works with Brass Taxes, tax help for freelancers, artists and other nice people. The grantees in attendance were given the opportunity to ask these professionals any question they might have in regards to taxes on the grant they received. Some questions were about the common pitfalls to watch out for, when quarterly payments are due, what makes good record keeping and how to account for mileage and meals.
We enjoyed listening to this informative session and we look forward to many more events with our grantees in the future.
