3-2-1 Launch Weekend! People's Liberty is proud to announce the successful liftoff of our first round of Project Grants for 2015. We had the bright idea to surrounded our Grantees with local storytellers, designers, and subject matter experts in order to help shape these exciting projects. Each group spent the majority of their time creating pitches outlining project goals and execution timeline, as well as developing collateral and multimedia. The goal of this event was to promote collaboration and kickstart each grantee project with a bang, as grantees transition from the drawing board to workbench.
Here comes the pitch. By developing a comprehensive pitch, grantees are better equipped to present their ideas to an eager public and People's Liberty staff. While each individual might feel comfortable with the particulars of their project, it's important for them to clearly define their objectives, as well as any hurdles left to overcome. Collaboration is also important. Connections inevitably form when we partner project grantees with Cincinnati's finest creative talent. Ultimately, it will be up to each project leader to decide whether or not to continue relying on the connections they've formed during Launch Weekend; we hope they do.
People's Liberty had the chance to sit down with Mark Mussman, grantee and visionary behind the Creative App Project, to discuss his takeaway from Launch Weekend. "It's a lot like The Apprentice," says Mussman, "but without the drama." He's quick to recognize the benefits of being placed with such a talented team because CAP is equally geared toward connecting members of the community. He goes on to explain "the thing that really invigorated me was that I could see that the people who were working with me were just as excited about this project." When asked what advice he might offer to the next round of Project Grantees going through Launch Weekend Mussman said "expect that it's going to be kind of a long day," but broke it down like this: "look, you have this project idea; you've gotten this grant and you have an idea in your head of what it's going to look like, but know that other people can help you make it better than what you can imagine."
